O verdadeiro fenômeno do musical dos anos 60 foi a banda de Liverpool, os Beatles.
Com letras ingênuas e uma postura bem-comportada, não demorou para que eles, e a novidade musical que traziam, se tornassem uma verdadeira febre entre os jovens no Reino Unido. E, no ano seguinte, estourassem também nos Estados Unidos, o que abriu caminho para uma verdadeira invasão britânica em território americano e no restante do mundo ocidental.

Juntamente com o sucesso dos Beatles, outra figura musical se destacou. Bob Dylan. Com músicas no estilo Folk, que tratavam de política e temas sociais de uma maneira diferente. Com formas poéticas, ele se tornou um símbolo dos protestos nos anos 60.
No Reino Unido, o The Who se tornava a principal banda mod do momento, com uma performance nada comportada, o que incluía arrebentar os instrumentos no palco e canções curtas e agressivas.
